OCZ System Elite DDR2 PC2-5400 1GB - RAM

OCZ Technologies have outdone themselves again. The budget System Elite version of their PC-5400/DDR2 Lineup beats competition left right and centre and for only about $50 for a single 1gb stick and $90 for a dual-channel set!

OCZ Technologies has long been a top competitor in the Computer RAM industry since entering the market in 2000. They have kept that upbeat with most sticks of RAM I have used and reviewed and I will always turn to OCZ when I need high performance aswell as budget ram.

Packaging

The RAM comes in a very simple package like most RAM you will buy. The package consists of one single sheet of plastic with button holders at one end and a sturdy closed side on the other. With bothsides open and the middle being beveled. A simple sticker came on mine with a ID number and manufactoring number (used for technical support/RMA'ing). The RAM itself is in a beveled slot in the very centre backed by a peice of cardboard with 2 sides, one being a very simple design with OCZ and PREMIUM MODULE on it. The otherside includes awards from famous hardware reviewing sites and warrenty information. When you open it up you will find directions on how to put the RAM into your system in five different languages and simple diagrams. Extremely simple packaging but it gets the job done as the ram is not actually touching the top of the slot nor the cardboard. It is very well protected.

Side 2

As with most OCZ RAM Modules they come with a unique OCZ copper heatsink already placed on their RAM sticks to make it look just that better! OCZ has always surprised me with the design of their products and they continue to do so. On the RAM heatsink is two stickers, one of one side and another on the other side. One of them being a copy of the sticker found on your packaging (used for warrenty/RMA'ing) the other contains the PN which is the same alphanumerical code found on both the other side and the packaging. Warrenty is void if this sticker is removed. This sticker also contains information on the RAM and the timing.

* XTC (Xtreme Thermal Convection) heatspreaders optimize the thermal management of memory modules by promoting greater airflow by means of micro-convection throughout what is usually the dead air space inside conventional heatspreader designs. In this manner, build-up of heat is avoided and thermal dissipation of the memory components is offloaded more efficiently through the honeycomb design. At the same time, mechanical stability is maintained.

** OCZ EVP (Extended Voltage Protection) is a feature that allows performance enthusiasts to use a VDIMM of 2.0V ± 5% without invalidating their OCZ Lifetime Warranty.

Preformance

This RAM was tested using PerformanceTest 6.1 on the following test computer.

These are both very good statistics for a budget series 1GB RAM stick I look forward to seeing some more RAM modules from OCZ Technologies.

Rating

This is an extremely wonderful RAM module, however it is still a budget series I am going to award the OCZ System Elite PC2-5400 a 9 out of 10 as this is one of the best budget series modules I have tested.
